"Booking in to the hotel "

When we arrived at the hotel there was no problem until we went to our room. We were in our room about 10min and a jnock came to the door to see were we sure that we had a booking with the hotel as they had double booked also they wanted to see had we booked on the internet as it had not come up on there system. I don`t think this was good enough. If we had been 15 min later what would have happened would we be left without a room in the hotel and we had the money paid to your company in advance.

"rip off hotel"

the most awful hotel ive ever stayed in the staff where polite but that was about it there is no way that hotel was worth £120 a night the interior was old and the rooms small did not look like anything on the internet we even had to pay 90 euros for christmas dinner which was just a standard roast dinner no trimmings no wine no bar in the hotel what hotel do you call that, one night my door swipe pass card wouldnt work no one on desk all night couldnt get into my room had to help myself to the master swipe card and open a room that was empty and when we said we had a family emergency just to move hotels they refused to refund us any money. Total rip off hotel dont go there

"Friendly reception- characterful rooms- pleasant lounge with real fire - comfortable beds"

No evening meals available when I stayed but plenty of good quality restaurants within 2 minutes walk - Indian, Thai, Asian fusion, Sea food and a Bistro. No trea making facilities in the rooms but the receptionist was always on hand to make a large pot of tea(real tea leaves!) and serve you in the lounge. Breakfast was good quality - I had Full IrishFree internet connection available with wi fi fro your own laptop or there were 2 PCs in the lounge where you could logon.Beds of high quality and SKY Sport on TV in the room.My room was a little cramped but this is a minor quibble as it is nice to stay in a hotel with character where each room was a different shape. Much more interesting than those hideous, cloned rooms you find in the Holiday Inn

"Really friendly staff"

This was a nice hotel but our room was on the front of the building and the busy road outside kept waking us up. Having said that, the room was very comfortable and the staff were really lovely

"Personalised charm"

Merrion Hall is suitable for those looking for sophisicated independence and not part of the larger 5 star hotel chains where they all look the same which ever city you happen to be in. Front of desk service is efficient and discrete; the standard of food in the restaurant is fine and the beds are comfy. All standard mod cons (hairdryers, TV, internet access etc). It`s 3 mins walk from a train station direct into Dublin city (10mins) and equally simple directions to the main routes out of Dublin for those enjoying a fly-drive. Would recommend for short stays.

"Building work in garden"

Not a 4* experience. Hotel room was unfinished (after refurbishment) and the hotel is building a large extension taking up the entire garden (as of Sept 2007 this is at the footings stage) - this is not mentioned when you book and no discount was offered when we complained. On the plus side staff are good and the beds comfortable. It is not in the centre of the city (short bus ride away) and is right on a busy main road but the double glazing is good

"Great service, great food."

Very warm wlecome. Our room was very clean and well furnished, though could have benefitted from tea making facilities. we had to ask for more towels. Nevertheless, a super venue, and would recommend.

"hotel was nicely presented, clean and neat. food was good. bit disappointed with room allocated."

We were given a room at the very top of the hotel which has slanted ceiling which was very low. felt like we could have been given a better room as there were only a few guests staying when we were there.

"NOT A HOTEL AS DESCRIBED-SMALL ROOM -PLUMBING DREADFUL"

NO ROBES PROVIDED.NO TEA MAKING FACILITIES.CAR PARKING THAT WAS ADVERTISED WAS ACTUALLY A DRIVEWAY WITH SPACE FOR FOUR CARS.OUR "SPACIOUS"ROOM WAS ACTUALLY A ROOFSPACE CONVERSION.PLUMBING WAS EXTREMELY NOISY AND EVEN WHEN WE ASKED TO MOVE ROOMS OUR "NEW,IMPROVED"ROOM HAD A TOILET THAT DIDN`T FILLUP TO FLUSH.THE LOVELY PICTURES THAT FEATURE ON THE INTERNET OF THE RECEPTION ROOM MUST HAVE BEEN TAKEN APPROX 10 YEARS AGO ,AREAS WERE LIKE GHOST ROOMS.THE FANTASTIC BEDROOM WITH THE ROLLTOP BATH ON THE WEB PAGE DEFINATELY WASN`T WHAT WE SAW!AFTER PAYING BEFORE OUR VISIT VIA THE INTERNET WE WERE TOLD ON OUR ARRIVIAL THAT "IS ONLY A COMISSION CHARGE"EVENTUALLY GOT THIS ISSUE SORTED .BREAKFAST WAS VERY BASIC

"Basic "

Overall not offensive, but the place looked a little tired. If the owners could correct a few details the place would be ok. Worst things; the television didn`t work and wasn`t fixed when this was noted. The toilet had the noisiest flush on the planet, the cooked breakfast wasn`t that inspiring. Scrambled eggs were cone shaped. I`m not a meat eater so a prolonged stay would be pretty repetitive on the breakfast front. Better points, the property isn`t bad to look at, the rooms a reasonable size, skylights a nice touch. The place is a way out of the main town so expect to get the bus (very easy to catch) and cabs (lots of them).
